Abstract

AIDS: In 1990, many Puerto Ricans emigrated to New York. Programs were created to provide continued medical services for Puerto Ricans living with AIDS. The Air Bridge Network supplies medical attention to AIDS patients who travel back and forth between New York and Puerto Rico. Many hospitals and community clinics in New York City and Puerto Rico participate. Medical documents are available in both geographic areas to ensure appropriate and continued care. To be eligible for this service, the patient need not be Puerto Rican, just travel between the two places. The Hispanic AIDS Forum, which is part of the network, seeks to strengthen its participation in other social service areas, including education and advocacy.
