PIP: This study is concerned with the household characteristics of those involved in the population turnaround from metropolitan to nonmetropolitan areas in the United States. Its primary objective is to examine empirically the factors affecting the population turnaround and to provide some additional insights into the general directions of this migration trend. Data for the study are taken from a longitudinal nationwide sample survey conducted by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan and involving approximately 6,000 families interviewed annually since 1968.
