Changing Epidemiology of Syphilis and Its Persistent Relationship with HIV

Curr Infect Dis Rep. 2004 Apr;6(2):135-140. doi: 10.1007/s11908-996-0010-z.

Abstract

Syphilis rates are increasing, particularly among men who have sex with men, many of whom are HIV coinfected. Screening based on risk behaviors, in addition to early recognition of primary and secondary syphilis and prompt reporting of cases to local and state health departments to assist in partner notification and treatment services, may curtail further spread of both infections.
