Nephrology and urinalysis in the writings of Moses Maimonides

Abstract

Moses Maimonides, renowned medieval Rabbi, philosopher, theologian, astronomer, and physician, wrote 10 medical treatises. These include extracts from Greek medicine and a series of monographs on health in general and several diseases in particular. This essay describes Maimonides' knowledge of nephrology as found in his writings and presents an English translation of an entire chapter from his Medical Aphorisms dealing with urinalysis.
